The North Street seems pleasant enough, the realm is clean and sun streams down from the clear blue sky. All around street puppeteers entertain passers by. But you slow down when you hear the cries of a child shattering the peaceful air. |
The child stops crying immediately and stares up at you, 'I want one.' You look down at the child and say, 'What?' The lip of the child begins to wobble, 'I saw one of those puppets walking about by themselves. It was amazing. I wants one.' He then shoves a scroll into your hand, 'Nobody will listen to me. But I saw it and I found this on a sleeping Puppeteer and it tells you how to get one.'
You receive 1 x Living Puppet Recipe.
You look at the ingredients of the recipe and see some familiar ingredients. Your heart begins to sink. This animates a puppet by summoning an Old One into it. You should construct one and hand it to the Guard Captain. The little child looks up at you, 'Are you going to get me a walking puppet?' You stuff the scroll into your back pack and say, 'No.'
The little boy screams, then kicks you in the shins, 'I hate you!' He then runs off yelling that he's going to tell his mother about how you stole his scroll. |

The Guard Captain waits for you, 'Did you find any evidence of demonic activity in the North Street?' |
He stares open mouthed at the small writhing puppet tied up in it's string. He gasps as it growls at him and then stuffs it into his back pack. 'Puppets? What possible use can possessed puppets be... No, I just don't get it. But we should take this for the mages to see. There are some stationed in the North Ward found to the north west of here.' Without another word he walks off.
Meet the Guard Captain in the Crestoun (North Ward). |

The Guard Captain waves you over. |
'We have a problem. The Mages within the North Ward have been consumed by the demons. We should try to help them, if you tear that thing out of them and bring it to me, hopefully that will free them of the evil spirits control. Go now.' |

When you return to the Guard Captain he is wiping blood from his sword, 'These Mages are rather belligerent don't you think? I mean possession really isn't a good enough reason for bad manners. Anyway, did you manage to rip out whatever is inside the mages?' |
The Captain takes the Thing from you. It wriggles in his hand, it's tentacles flailing. 'Oh, this really is disgusting.' He says as he tries to jam it into his back pack. 'I tried to get one too, but the Keepers gave a good fight. Kudos to you for managing it, did the Mage survive?' You shake you head.' He sighs and was about to say something else but a dark tentacle from the Thing half inside the backpack grabs his wrist, twisting it with remarkable strength. He yells out in surprise and pain dropping his backpack. The Thing That Guides takes it's chance and scuttles off with alarming speed in the direction of the nearest sewer grate.
In one fluid motion Guard Captain draws his sword and scoops up his pack. He runs after the Thing, 'Come on Warrior! It's off down into the Crestoun (Ward Line), meet me there.' |

The Guard Captain smiles at you. |
'I certainly did. Honestly, I don't know why these demons are so fixated on tentacles when feet are so much more efficient. Anyway, we can guess that this Thing was running back to it's minion. It's also the first lead that has lead is directly down into the sewer lines, so we should look around for a bit.'
The Captain then points into the darkness of the Ward Line, 'Now the sewer lines are big and filled with rats. But I swear I saw something much larger than a rat skulking about. Go find out what it is.' |

The Guard Captain was right, you don't have to walk far before you are faced with vile undead reaching out of the Ward Line's gloom but you make short work of them. You travel on and discover a narrow chamber. A strange figure dressed in long black robes stands next to an altar. |
You draw your weapon and advance on the Dark Monk. Rage grips you and you say, 'You die now Tantrathull!' To your amazement, the figure does nothing as you close in for the kill but laugh. Confused you slow down and peer at him more closely. It is only then that you see this Monk is stood upright rather than slightly hunched as Trantrathull was.
The Monk manages to stifle his giggles after a few moments. In a deep voice that resonates around the chamber he says, 'I am not Tantrathull. I am entitled The Giver of Wisdom. I do so to all who approach this sacred altar of broken stones. The Old Ones take those who have been rejected by the world and shape them into what they should have been all along. You were led here to the altar, do you wish to accept the beauteous bounty of the True Gods?'
Oddly you feel no threat from The Giver of Wisdom. Slowly you reply, 'I am free to choose?' The Dark Monk nods, 'It is better to know your own mind rather than choose.... recklessly. It does not go well for those who are not completely committed to fully exploring the depths of the Ever Truths. In fact, you may take this text and freely think it over. All I ask is that you do not take it out this Realm.'
You receive 1 x Bounteous Truth Recipe.
You read over the scroll and see some disturbing elements to this truth the Giver of Wisdom is trying to sell you. You say to the Monk, 'I'll need some time to to think this over.' The Giver of Wisdom bows, 'You may take time, but to not hesitate for too long. A decision must be made.'
The Guard Captain will be interested in seeing this Bounteous Truth. |

The Guard Captain waits for you, 'Did you find out what it is that is skulking about these sewer lines?' |
The Captain peers into the Jar, 'You do give me the nicest things. Errr, what is it?' You say, 'I met a Dark Monk standing by an altar, he calls himself The Giver of Wisdom. But he warned me that bad things happen to those who do not fully explore the truths he is giving. I guess that during the possession process you can actually change your mind and the Old One then dies. Unfortunately when this happens the blood of the dead Old One apparently turns the victim unto the mindless undead.'
The Captain grins at you, 'Right then, let's go kill this Giver of Wisdom.'
Lead the Guard Captain back to the Rejected Altar to kill The Giver of Wisdom. |

The Captain shrugs, 'Maybe you butchering all his undead chums that might have tipped him off. Anyway we should continue our search for Tantrathull. Meet me in the Church Line, we might as well check it out as we're down here already. But if we find nothing but stupid rats, we're going straight up top. I'm not wasting my time wandering about these smelly sewer lines.' |

The Guard Captain nods, 'Yes, I saw that Monk dressed in black robes you mentioned. He is standing on a rune protected by a spell ward. There are people who are wearing long black cloaks who feed the spell ward with runes. Get one of those runes from the Blessed of the Old Ones and see if you can get through the ward to kill that Monk. |

You battle your way to the Spell Ward that the Guard Captain told you about. You recognize the Giver of Wisdom immediately. You can hear just about hear his deep resonant voice murmuring something under his breath but he is protected behind the dome of the Spell Ward. To break through it you will require one of the runes the Blessed of the Old Ones are feeding the Ward with. |
The cloaked Blessed of the Old Ones simply lay their Empowered Wisdom Stones by the spell ward which feeds it with its stored mana. But you slam your Empowered Stone right into the ward itself, shattering it and stepping right up to the Monk himself. It is only when you are close to him that you realize he is simply an illusion. You see a stone tablet at the illusions feet. Maybe this will be worth all your effort.
You should give the Text of the Old Ones to the Guard Captain. |

The stone tablet spins once in the air as it falls, then hits the waters floor, bounces and comes to rest on the Guard Captains boot. Immediately he gasps for breath and grabs you. 'I SAW HIM.' He shouts at you, then he takes a deep breath. 'Sorry, I'll start again. You had left and he just appeared out of nowhere and paralyzed me with a touch. He then said that he expected you to succeed where all the acolytes have failed. You will break through the ward and claim the sacred text.' He looks at you, 'It was all a trick. Some sort of test for the Blessed of the Old Ones. Just before he left he patted me on the head and said he'd be waiting in the Hidden Sanctum for the both of us. He was so smug about it all. Pick up the Sacred Text and let's go kill him. I really hate that guy!'

The Guard Captain breaths deeply, 'I'm sorry Warrior, but I don't think my demonic protection rune is working too well here. You need to hunt the realm for Tantrathull and find out where the Giver of Wisdom went. Be quick, I don't think I can take much more...' |

You search the Hidden Sanctum but find no sign of the Giver of Wisdom. You are just about to give up when you discover a raised dais with a woman dressed in long red robes meditating in silence. |
You put one foot on the dais and her eyes flicker open. They glow with an unholy light within the darkness. She smiles and walks calmly down to you, 'I am The Seer, The Giver of Wisdom told a tale that you would come. Now tell me, why are you here?' She raises an eyebrow and her eyes flash with an unholy fire, 'Speak truly, I shall see through a falsehood.'
Now that you are closer to her you see her skin shines with delicate scales. She would be beautiful but for her skin looking like it has been pulled too tightly over her skull. You swallow hard and consider what has brought you to this place. You smile and say, 'I am here to kill the Dark Monk Tantrathull.'
The Seer's eyes glow for a moment, 'I see. But he has been protected by the Old Ones. You cannot land a single blow on him. What sin has he done to you?' You sense a danger in her words and gives you pause. Then you simply decide to tell her the truth, 'He lied to me.'
The Seer blinks in surprise at you. Her eyes glow for a moment and she tilts her head like a snake, 'It was about a sacrifice... Yes. I see the truth of your words. I agree, a falsehood must always warrant death. Take this recipe and rid us of Tantrathull (Elite). In his zeal to the Old Ones he has pushed too far too quickly and brought unwarranted attention upon us. He must pay for that failure as well. Now depart and do not return, I am hungry.'
You receive 1 x Saber of the Seer Recipe. |

He sighs with relief, 'Did you kill that idiot Tantrathull and find The Giver of Wisdom?' It's obvious that the influence of the Old Ones is beginning to seriously effect the Guard Captain. You say as calmly as you can, 'I lost the Giver of Wisdom but I did kill Tantrathull (Elite). Now we must get out of here. There is a Priestess of the Old Ones meditating just around the corner and she makes me nervous.'
The Guard Captain frowns, 'This Priestess makes YOU nervous!? Well that's good enough for me! We'll go to the Cardinal right away and he can deal with a demonic cult that is right under his feet. Meet me in the Church Plaza as soon as you can. He then walks off muttering to himself that he's not going to sleep for a month after all this...
