'We have a serious problem. The Church Plaza has been overrun by some very familiar undead. They are like the Wretched Sewer Denizens, but they seem to have been altered somehow. I want you to bring me whatever has changed them, they must be carrying something. It will give us a clue to who has done this. Take this recipe, it details what I need.'

You return to back to the Guard Captain. He asks, 'Have you found anything on those Blood Crazed Denizens that points to who has done this?' |
He takes the vile statue from you, 'This has a Wisdom Rune in it. It is solid proof that the Giver of Wisdom and his twisted cult is responsible for this. We must speak at once to the Cardinal, we will find him in the Crestoun Church. I'll meet you there.' |

You enter the vaulted Church and are greeted by a tall man dressed in blood red robes. The Guard Captain bows and says, 'Father we have dire news. There is a strange cult that has drawn some of our citizens away from the Light. They are also responsible for the crazed undead that are assaulting the Plaza. The Cardinal nods, 'Do you have anything from the cult which would tell us which one it is?' |
He looks at the cracked stone tablet with keen interest. 'These are texts from the Cult of the Sharpers.' He looks up at you both, 'This is not good. Not good at all. I have someone you need to see, meet me in the Inner Chapel.' He gestures that you both follow him and opens a large door behind him. |

The Cardinal leads you into a hallowed hall with a Paladin praying before a large stone altar. |
The Cardinal coughs gently and the Paladin stands, 'What is it Father?' he gestures to you and hands over the Sacred Texts of the Old Ones. She gasps at what she reads, 'But this is a tablet of the Sharpers, but they were destroyed hundreds of years ago!' The Cardinal bows slightly, 'Evil will always find a way to take advantage of the fragility of man. It's a tragic truth. But this must surely be why you have come. This must be what my visions warned us about.'
The Paladin shakes her head slowly, 'My instructions were clear, I must wait for the Covenant of Gurgriss before I can take a single step. Your visions were simply a portent to these trials and they sent me from Karthak. But we cannot act before the Covenant arrives.' The Cardinal's face twists in utter rage, 'There are ravenous undead pouring out the very sewers and you sit here and pray. What is the Covenant of Gurgriss? I find no reference to it in the scriptures. Surely the town being overrun is enough or do we have to be devoured alive before you actually do something!'
The Paladin grits her teeth, 'I see your point Cardinal. But you were not the only one to receive visions. Mine were explicit. I stay until the Covenant arrives.'
She turns back to the altar, your eyes follow her and all three of you gasp in shock and astonishment... |

The altar has a massive greatsword sunk deeply into it's very stone. The back wall and roof are gone replaced with burning mountains and angels with shining sabers hover in the starlit sky. Resting quizzically on the hilt of the titanic sword, Gurgriss looks down at all three of you. A terrifying silence suddenly fills the now very, very, very tiny Inner Chapel. |
The God of War sighs deeply, 'I must admit that being ignored is a first for me. Do tell me if you're finished, I'd hate to intrude...' You stay perfectly silent staring at the stone floor waiting. The Cardinal whimpers beside you, fear has obviously overwhelmed him. The Paladin mumbles something incoherent. You almost reach for her to shut up, but you are frozen in place by Gurgriss' presence.
Gurgriss frowns at the Paladin, 'You honor Osverin don't you Cazinrill. I'm not good enough for you, isn't that right? Too brutish to bother with. Even now you have the audacity to try and excuse your behavior. Well, I don't see the oh-so-precious Osverin here. Do you? Has he bothered to gift you with divine visions that guide you on your path?'
Cazinrill croaks some feeble sounds and you grab her ankle, with all your strength you manage to whisper, 'Quiet.' The Paladin shudders but falls silent.
Gurgriss leans forward. You want the floor to open up and swallow you whole. 'At last, you learn some respect Paladin. That's why you're here, to learn. I also see that my Covenant is already instructing you. I'm pleased that you're a quick study.' The God of War than takes a deep breath, 'I also know what my Covenant is like. My Warrior get's all tied up with hunting down the evil doer. But in this instance that's a well thought out trap. So I will tell you this, you must concentrate on the goal. You must purge the Heretics from your midst. Find it's source and destroy it.' He then leans back and you can breath again.
'Now stand before me. I honor you all as worthy and charge you to accomplish my will.' He then smiles directly at the whimpering Cardinal, 'My friend, you have nothing to fear. You have served me faithfully your entire life. Also your rage at the undead polluting our town makes me proud. I wish I had more like you. I'll leave you this trinket as a sign to others. You must now stand, my faithful Cardinal. Do not cow to those above you. Show respect! You know my mind better than many.' The Cardinal stops whimpering and stands. He stares in wonder at his God.
You blink and Gurgriss vanishes along with the angels and burning mountains. The only thing left is a gigantic two handed sword driven deeply into the stone altar. It shines in the gentle candle light of the Inner Chapel.
The Guard Captain coughs, you had forgotten he was with you. 'He means we need to clean up Crestoun. Well, we could start in Greenvale manor, it's the ancestral home of that idiot Tantrathull.' The Cardinal nods, 'Yes, but we should make sure that there are no more surprises. You should begin your search below Noble Rise then work your way up. Also Captain I would like to talk with you more about what you have found in your travels.' The Captain beams at him with pride, 'Of course Father, I have notes and some interesting things to show you. A bag full of demons for a start.' The Cardinal laughs, 'Well now, it looks like we have much to discuss. Let's have a look at this bag first.' They walk away together, talking.
The Paladin glares at the majestic sword, 'So I was waiting for you. Well, we better get on with purging Crestoun. I also agree with the Father, we should secure the sewers first. Evil lurks in the dark ignored places. Meet me in the Crestoun (Noble Line), you had best return to the Church Plaza and enter the Church Line below. From there you can access the Noble Line.' Cazinrill then walks out the Inner Chapel without a backward glance.
You gaze upon the massive sword stuck in the altar and can't help but smile. Gurgriss honors you one moment than makes sure you're walking knee deep in sewer muck the next. You salute the majestic sword and are just about to turn when a golden saber slowly materializes on top of the altar. The symbol of Gurgriss is emblazoned on the hilt. You have no need of a weapon, but you guess it's not for you.
