Required Item: Saber of Gurgriss
Required Kills: None

The Paladin glowers into the darkness of the North Line, 'The mighty Gurgriss sends us down into this filth. I should not be surprised, what has the God of War ever given me?' |
You hand her the splendid Saber and say, 'This belongs to you. If you had waited a moment longer rather than walking away in a sulk, you could have taken it from the altar yourself.' Cazinrill takes the sword from you, 'I'm sorry, this is for me?' You smile, then tell her, 'The saber materialized on the altar in the Inner Chapel just after you left.' You tap the symbol on the hilt, 'I guess Gurgriss wants to make a point.'
The Paladin swipes the sword, the saber rings as it cuts the air, 'I don't understand. I have served Osverin all my life. Like my grandmother and mother before me. My whole family is pledged to him. I don 't like Gurgriss. He's obsessed with blood and victory. Where is the room for beauty or art?' You gaze at her standing in the dark, 'I would say that life is not all beauty and art. Someone has to fight so others can appreciate those loftier things.'
A rage suddenly consumes Cazinrill and she throws the saber away. It arcs off into the gloom. 'I do not accept that!' she screams, 'I belong to Osverin and Gurgriss can't... make... me...' Her rant tails off as the shining Saber materializes back in her hand at the name of the War God. The icon of Gurgriss shimmers in the dark and the flawless blade glows with an inner light.
You marvel at the majestic weapon and say, 'That is a beautiful sword.' The Paladin nods in silent agreement.
She then calms herself, 'Emotions have always been a problem for me. They unsettle my inner clarity, dulling my potential. The teachings of Osverin state that I must not become overwhelmed by them. But I'll not get anywhere crying like a silly girl. We have a task to do and we must get on with it. Whilst I was waiting for you I saw a vile Slime Abomination moving about in the darkness. Bring me its essence, I need to see what kind of demon we're dealing with.'
You must find a way to get the Slime Abomination Essence and give it to Cazinrill. |

You return to find Cazinrill studying her saber, 'Did you bring me the Essence I asked for?' |
You hand over the foul smelling glass box and the Paladin stares into it for a long time. 'This is just as I feared Warrior. This creature is not a demon or malevolent creature in the strictest sense. It is one of the creations of the Shapers. I see the hallmarks of Elsewhere in it's flesh which means we have a real fight on our hands. The Shapers are not just a heresy or a twisting of the doctrines of Light. They are a real threat to the very fabric of creation. We must assume that this Abomination has been put here as some sort of guard. So we are n the right track. This is something the Town Guard can handle now we know they are here, meet me in the Noble Rise, I want to get out of this stench.' |

Cazinrill eyes everyone that walks past, you start to wonder if she is going to simply start hacking at people until she begins to find the evil you both are searching for. |
The Paladin takes a deep breath, 'I suppose you're right. I was half expecting to be attacked by insane Shaper Zealots as soon as we stepped out the sewer lines.' You are relieved to see her weight shift from the balls of her feet to her heels. You then ask her, 'There is one thing that's bothering me. In my travels through Crestoun, the Old Ones seem to be hiding in the weirdest of places. In bags of apples and even puppets. Why would they do this and not just open a portal and pour out of it?'
Cazinrill then smiles, 'That is one of our advantages over the Shapers. They are rooted in Elsewhere, the very foundations of creation. So they can't simply invade our existence. But that doesn’t mean that they cannot effect us. Warfare is not simply confined to combat my friend. The Shapers alter creation to their wishes, which means that their influence is the greater threat at this time. You see the Shapers need to be summoned into the realm of the living, but their very presence is toxic to the consciousness of living beings. So the Shapers are forced to alter the minds of their summoners so they can stand the rites of casting. They literally mentally unhinge their disciples.'
'On the flip side, the insane cannot conduct complex spells. So it's really a matter of trial and error for the Shapers to find talented magic users and alter their minds to their purposes. This also means that they fail a lot, these failures do tend to leave a trail of... unfortunates... Thankfully this tends to alert us to their machinations. But the Shapers are crafty, and that is our nightmare. Basically, their presence twists everything around them. If you are exposed to the Shapers, they will invade your mind to see if you could be useful to them. So puppets would be perfect, they get to be around both young and old. If you ingest them, well it's not pretty. But if they are being that open then the Shapers are further along than I feared.'
'I want you to search the Noble Rise and see what the Shapers are up to.' |

Required Item: Annotated Tome of Elsewhere
Required Kills: None

Cazinrill greets you with a nervous smile, 'I can't see anything obvious, have you figured out what the Shapers are up to in the Noble Rise?' |
The Paladin thumbs through the vile book, 'Where did you get this from?' You tell her it's the new craze in the bored upper classes of Crestoun. Cazinrill nods, 'From what I can tell, this book details ways to manifest echoes of Elsewhere within our realm. I would guess it's a method of the Shapers to discover those who have talent amongst the educated population of the town. Very clever. I see from these annotations ways to get sharper pictures for a more intense experience. This would increase the exposure the casters of these spells had to the presence of the Shapers, weakening their minds to their influence. I bet it's both fun and addictive. Fortunately we can put a stop to this easily by banning the Tomes sale. This is good work Warrior.'
'Whilst you were busy I asked about this Tantrathull that the Town Guard had problems with. Apparently he is of the Noble lineage of Greenvale. They have a large mansion south east of here. Meet me in the Greenvale (Garden) we must investigate this further.' |

Cazinrill stands over a dead body of a Gardener, 'You found out what that Gardner was talking about, not letting me in?' |
You describe meeting the Drunken Gardner and giving him his Dinner Box and watch her face twist in revulsion when you tell her about the shed filled with body parts. She then squints at you, 'The Shaper's creations require food. The meat does not have to be fresh, only available and lots of it. We are definitely on the right track. Umm sorry, but what is that smell?'
You shrug and open your backpack and show her the Juicy Chunk. The Paladin gags, 'So... let me get this straight. The insane Drunken Gardner gives you a human arm as reward and you KEEP IT?' You blink in astonishment and say, 'But it might come in handy later...' She glares at you, 'Yes, yes. Handy, arm I get it. I've no time for stupid jokes. Just keep that backpack closed and let's see what horror is in store for us in the mansion house.' With that the Paladin stalks away muttering to herself about why on earth she would want to go inside a shed filled with rotten meat.
Meet Cazinrill in the Greenvale (Lobby).
