You find Cazinrill standing in front of a large glass case staring at the Headdress inside with frustration. 'Do you have that Greenvale Key?' |
The Paladin takes the Key and opens the case, 'There is a stupid woman standing in the Corridor whispering one of those Tome Mantras. She seems to be in some kind of trance but her song is summoning minor creatures of Elsewhere into the world. We need her to stop, but she is being protected by the large Green Thing. I have noticed that the Green Thing seems to eat any of the minor creatures that come near. We can use it's hunger to distract it.'
'The minor demons seem to want items to possess, so rip out some from the wandering suits of armor and put them into this Headdress. It will give the Green Thing enough to chew on so that you can get to the silly woman and snap her out of whatever trance she is in.'
You receive 1 x Haunted Greenvale Headdress Recipe.

The Paladin slowly draws her saber, the sigil of Gurgriss in it's hilt glows with power. 'We must put a stop to the woman summoning the Squirming Things. Feed the Haunted Greenvale Headdress to the Green Thing and stop that woman chanting that Elsewhere Mantra.'

You follow the rhythmic flow of words and find a young woman standing in a small chamber just off the main Corridor. Beside her is a twisted mass of green tentacles. It has no eyes or discernible head, but you feel it staring at you. |
The woman sways slightly as if to a unheard beat. There is no way past the towering Green Thing. But a glimmering green light appears near it and a meaty tentacle quickly pulls it into the writhing mass. Cazinrill was right, this Thing eats the smaller ones. After taking a deep breath, you throw the Haunted Headdress in the direction of the monstrous creature.
The mask bounces once and begins to twist away from the vile Thing. It's only when the mask suddenly flips over by an unseen hand and starts to run away on it's mane of tentacles that the Green Thing moves to grab it. But the Headdress somehow dodges the tentacle and continues on it's scuttling escape. With a gurgle of rage the revolting tentacled Thing lurches after the mask.
You watch it move once, twice then three times. On the fourth it grabs it's meal and starts to consume it. You take your chance and run to the poor woman.
Behind you there is a slow ominous crunching sound, but you ignore it and shake the young woman. Her eyes flicker open and you look into her pale milky eyes. The mantra continues. Her face is completely devoid of expression, it's as if she is asleep. You shake her again, harder, but she continues the chant. Behind you the slow crunching begins to speed up. The mask is beginning to break down, and fast.
You must wake her up, so you slap her. There is a sharp crack and her cheek blossoms red. The crunching sounds pauses momentarily. You begin to panic and shake her again. But she just continues her flowing chanting. The crunching sound starts again, followed by a weird slurp. The Green Thing is almost finished and is turning around on it's awkward lurch back to it's ward.
You shake her ferociously, her head snaps forward and back. Her chant continues unabated. Behind you comes a scraping sound of claws on stone. The Thing is crawling to you. Terror clutches your heart. You grab her head and beg her to wake up. It is then you find the tentacle wrapped around her neck, hidden by her coat. You see a vile necklace around her throat. You snap open her coat and see a living amulet staring back at you. You quickly grab it and pull the amulet over her head.
You receive 1 x Amulet of Elsewhere.
She screams, grabs her head and crumples to the cold stone floor.
A roar immediately explodes behind you, without looking you flee the small chamber.
You turn to see the monstrous Green Thing reaching for the poor unconscious woman. It's tentacles coil around her. Then right before your very eyes it begins to fade into nothing, taking her with it.

You show Cazinrill the amulet you found around the woman's neck. She steps back from it as it blinks up at her. 'So that was keeping her in the trance. Well at least we stopped the summoning of any more Squirming Things, I'll take that small victory. Let's get out of here, meet me in the Game Room.'
