In a dark corner of the Library you find a dark robed scribe hunched over a table covered with sheets of parchment. The scribe glares at you, 'Show me the sign of devotion. Or leave.' He snorts with derision, 'I am surprised that you rose to this level without the correct attire. Maybe you just require the correct teachings to find guidance. Take the recipe and discuss the ideas with the Devotees you find walking the Library.' You receive 1 x Tome of Secrets Recipe.

Stage 3 Minimum Level: 1579 Location:Greenvale (Library) (8, 8) Required Item: Tome of Secrets Required Kills: None

Cazinrill stands over another corpse of her enemy. She smile pleasantly as she wipes her Sabre clean of blood. 'Did you manage to get me a Tome of Secrets?' She scowls at the cover, 'This symbol is a travesty of one of the holy icons of Light. Obviously these Shapers can't do anything original themselves. They have to degrade what has gone before.' She growls and shoves the book in her backpack. 'This is ridiculous, I can't even get past the cover. I'll probably burst in flames of anger of I actually read what's inside in my current mood. Come, we should move on. It will give me time to calm down and maybe actually read the book. Thank you for getting it for me, it can't have been easy.' 'Let's look in the Greenvale (Chambers). At least there isn't much more to the mansion, I'll be glad to get out of this unpleasant place.'

Cazinrill thumbs through the pages of the Tome of Secrets. She frowns in frustration as she does so. She bites her lower lip, 'Nothing that you have done Warrior. It's just that these stupid Shapers have coded their text. Which means I can't read it without the Lexicon that unlocks the code. I suppose that means that they're not that stupid, but we shan't split hairs about it. You need to find me the Codex Lexicon so I can read this thing.'

Stage 5 Minimum Level: 1580 Location:Greenvale (Chambers) (14, 11) Required Item: None Required Kills: None

You are amazed at the size of the Chambers. They are a maze of bare little rooms rather than the fine chambers you were expecting. But you guess that nobody has been living here for a long time. As you walk the twisted halls and corridors, strange servants grin at you foolishly, apparently deeply pleased about something. You hurriedly walk past them, deciding you'd rather not find out what. As you try to avoid the weird silent Servants, you walk into a small chamber without really looking where you are going. You almost run right into the rough stone altar sitting in the middle of the room. A priest in dark robes looks at you... The Priest nods slowly, 'Greeetingsss, what may I do for you?' You look around and see nothing but bare walls around you. In desperation you say, 'Well I'm a bit confused if I'm honest.' The Priest folds his arm, 'How so?' he says simply. You blink rapidly trying to formulate a convincing lie. But under the stare of the Priest you just blurt out, 'I got this Tome, but I can't read it. It's just gibberish. I don't see the point to be honest.' The Priest actually laughs, a soft unpleasant hissing sound. 'It has been a long time since I actually heard a truth. I almost didn't recognize it. Most come to me quoting mangled pieces of the sacred text in a feeble attempt to impress me with their devotion to our Masters. But not you. I must say I'm impressed. As you have done me the honor of speaking honestly to me, I shall reciprocate and impart truth to you. The Tome is not meant to be simply read. You must solve its riddle before you can drink its divine knowledge. But I see you have reached your own way to the answer. This is that the Old Ones have a majesty of thought far above our own. We are merely shaped into our truth as they tell us. But as you have not made the journey fully, I must place another hurdle in front of you on your path. The Priest gazes at you quizzically, 'Have you the Inner Light of the Emptied Servants?' He takes the glass ball from you and looks intently into it. The Black candle burns inside with a weak sputtering flame. 'Just as I thought. These Servants have a poor insight into our Master's precepts and mantras. I have much work to do before they are worthy of serving the True Gods. I must thank you, as a reward you can have this. I hope you shall prove a more valuable Servant to our Masters.' Cazinrill slams the Tome closed in exasperation, 'I don't know why I bother. It's just meaningless squiggles.' She grits her teeth and snatches the Lexicon from you. 'Just when I give up you torture me with more of it. Thanks! I'll have to figure out how this works. But while you were away gallivanting and I was getting nowhere fast, I did happen to notice some Dark Priests go into Attic. They were far to furtive about it for my liking. We should go and see what's up there.' Meet Cazinrill in the Greenvale (Attic).

The Paladin gives you a venomous look, 'Well I would if that incessant chanting would stop. I just can't think. I saw this woman wafting about with some really bad hair. Go murder the silly bint. She can't hold a tune to save here life, so take it and put us all out of some misery.' Hunt down and kill the Chanter of Verse (Elite).

When you return to Cazinrill you find her pouring over the Tome of Secrets. 'Did you take care of that silly woman?' She smiles and you realize it's the first time she has done that in a long while. 'That woman, was she the Chanter of Verse?' You nod. She closes the book in triumph, 'That's the first bit of good news I've heard in ages. I just read about her, she was the wife of Tantrathull. She started to get strange dreams and became obsessed with finding out what they meant. She retreated up here and refused to see anyone. Tantrathull was frantic with worry, but when she started to change he became terrified he would lose her. She then convinced him that to be with her he must turn to the Shapers. She is the origin of all this pain. It's ironic that Trantrathull's love drove him to almost destroy the very town his ancestors labored so hard to construct. The Chanter is also the Oracle of the Shapers Temple down in the sewers. Her death will deal a serious blow to the horror infecting Crestoun.' Cazinrill then taps the cover of the Tome, 'Although I've figured out how to read the basics of the Tome, there are some advanced passages that I'm not sure I get. I need to try something to see if I am on the right lines. There is a spell near the front that seems important. But it's unclear to me what it does. Can you bring me a Pebble of Darkwater. If I'm reading this correctly the Twisted Emanation (Champion) are carrying them.'

Cazinrill is flicking through the pages of the Tome of Secrets when you return. She says absently, 'Did you get the Pebble of Darkwater?' 'Good, I just need to find the right page...' Her brow furrows in concentration, she then holds the small Pebble out in front of her and starts to chant quietly to herself. As she does so some Twisted Emanations start drifting in her direction, obviously attracted by her casting. You draw your weapon and prepare for their onslaught, but Cazinrill suddenly stops and the putrid demons slowly turn and dejectedly float away. She opens her hand and you both stare at the shining gold coin resting in her palm. 'I don't understand, the Tome said that the pebble was an illusion to hide the truth. I do remember that there is a legend about a pirate fleet that was run aground on a shores of the Sea Razor Isle on the nearby coast. I suppose we should check it out.' Cazinrill then hands you the gold coin, 'You can take it. It seems to pulse strangely against my skin. Now, if we need to go to the Sea Razor Isle we must use the Coast Road out the West Gate found in the Crestoun (Noble Rise). To get there quickly we should take the secret way that Tantrathull used to travel to the Temple in the sewers to deliver his wife's pronouncements. The Tome tells of a Hidden Room found just off the Chambers. Within is a portal that will take us directly to an unused Maintenance Locker on the Noble Line.
