You enter the Dark Cave and find Cazinrill talking quietly to a Cabin Boy. She look up at you in frustration, The Boy will not let us past. He says that he's lost. |
You step past the Paladin and hand the small spirit the Sea Charts that the Quartermaster gave you. The boy looks at the Map and shrugs. 'It looks nice, but I can't read.' You hear the Paladin grit her teeth behind you. But then a deafening roar drowns her out. You turn and see an enraged Quartermaster shove the Paladin to one side as if she was the merest inconvenience.
He picks up the Cabin Boy by the scurf of the neck, 'You gonna annoy me any more than I already am ya little snot?' The boy squeals in terror and vanishes.
You stare at the Quartermaster and say, 'I thought you were lost, how did you find your way back here?' The Quartermaster grins at you, 'I gave you them Charts right? Well I haunt them. You brought the Charts here, so here I be. Gotta love the small print [wink]. Now come on, I want to see that no-good-Captain bleed! But not the Paladin, those preachy types make my teeth ache.' The enraged spirit then turns and walks onto the Wreck.

The Quartermaster screams into the frigid air of the lonely Isle. |
The Quartermaster shouts incoherently into the cold air, his words lost in the outpouring of his torrent of wrath. He then glances at you and growls at the sky in an attempt to calm down. 'I just can't believe what has happened to us. We sailed the endless seas and carved a real name for ourselves. We were a terror of the tides. We hunted down all the rich merchants and none could out run the Dark Raven. In time we gathered so much gold that it started to take up too much room in the hold. When we didn't have space for water, the Captain said we needed to store our haul someplace. That was when he found that revolting idol. He started to take us on cursed waters in a hunt for who knows what. We all thought he was looking for a good spot to store the loot. I reckon that evil thing was whispering insanities into his mind as he slept.'
He turns on his heel and gestures expansively over the dark island, 'He actually drove us aground here. The Dark Raven broke apart and all hands were lost. To add insult to iniquitous injury, our spirits were driven from the ship by a strange and twisted evil. If a spirit is forced from their haunt for too long they start to loose who they are. We drifted lost in the cold depths for centuries until we were little more that shadows of our former selves. Then we found another shore and you reminded me who I was.'
'That greed riddled Captain never wanted to share in the coin with his own shipmates, that's the only thing that makes sense. We fought and died for that selfish cretin and now he won't show his face to me. Hunt down that traitorous dog. He won't face me as I'm his second, but maybe you can draw the wretched little toady out of whatever putrid hole he has sunk to. I think the Captain has now lost his marbles completely, he calls himself The Keeper of the Forbidden (Elite). Find him and kill him.' |

The Quartermaster stands is silence on the wind blasted Isle, 'Have you killed the The Keeper of the Forbidden (Elite)?' |
'I saw the disgusting Creature as you battled it. That was no longer our Captain. He was using bits of our bodies to keep him alive. Maybe that weakened our anchor to this place. It's good that he's dead. I just wish I knew where all our gold went. I can feel it but can't see it.' You smile and say, 'The Paladin and I found an evil book back in Crestoun. It pointed us here. It's full of evil mumbo-jumbo, but is did say that the pebbles of this Isle were an illusion. We dispelled one and found a golden coin inside. So I guess you're haul is all around you.'
The Quartermaster squints at you, 'That's... that's utterly bonkers! I mean, what's wrong with a big chest, a map and X-marks-the-spot? Like normal folks do.' He then looks again at the pebble strewn beach in front of him. He reaches down and touches one. The stone flickers strangely but inside the shine of gold is plain to see. He snatches his hand away and glares at you, 'Now then, we has a problem don't we...'
You laugh and reply, 'You think I'm stupid enough to steal gold from a vengeful pirate spirit that will haunt the coin I steal and gut me in my sleep? No thanks, I've got other things to do. I have to stop that evil that forced you off your ship for one.' The Pirate then smiles, 'Good, that's the other thing crossed off the list then. You should now go see your Paladin. Also take this, it might come in handy for you later. You done me a favor so I got to do the same. Now, be off with ya and don't say a WORD about the stones on this shore.'

You find Cazinrill glaring at the Cabin Boy, 'What happened? This little snot won't let me past.' |
You explain what happened and when you finish Cazinrill nods, 'So the Captain of the Dark Raven found a grotesque idol then started to act strangely. I would assume that he found a Weaver Idol and the Blood Weaver promised to hide his haul and give him eternal life in exchange for a sacrifice. He then drove his ship aground killing himself and all his crew so no one would know where the treasure would be. The Blood Weaver then hid the coins scattered across the beach in the pebble illusion. The drove the spirits of the crew from the wreck allowing the now insane Captain to guard the Shapers gold alone. It always amazes me how far greed will drive people.'
She then gasps, 'Of course, the Greenvales found the Idol and it told them about the gold just laying on a beach. That was how they came into their riches and built the foundations of Crestoun. I shudder to think what they had to do in the bargain though. Nothing good I'd wager. Well we know that the Shapers are here, we had better explore Sea Razor Isle and put a stop to whatever they are plotting. Meet me in Sea Razor Isle (Rock Pool), it's just off the Reef.'
