We must close that breach or it could cause untold damage to the very boundary of our existence. I do sense a malignant aura around you, I assume that the weird Monk in the Vile Cove gave you something. Could you give it to me?' |
Cazinrill takes the strange orb from you, 'Thank you Warrior, I'll alter the essence of this so that it will be the antithesis of who the Shapers are. You should use this to close that fissure, I'll be here when you have completed the task.

Cazinrill smiles weakly at you, 'I'm glad to see you back. Have you found a way to seal the Fissure?' |
She breaths a deep sigh of relief, 'That's good, I was worried there for a moment that you would falter. Come meet me in the Rancid Spring, I feel a great evil lurking within that realm. When we have dealt with it I will answer any question you have concerning the Shapers.' Although confusion and concerns crash upon you, you push them to one side. The Realms are in danger, you and Cazinrill must protect them. |

Cazinrill looks around, her face grim and Saber bloodied. |
She nods, 'I'm sorry Warrior, I sensed back in the Cold Vale. I assumed it would be here, but it is not. In fact it's actually hidden deeper within the Isle. I don't mind telling you that I fear what we are about to face there. What kind of darkness could it be?
She shudders then points to a tremor on the rocky path not far away. You watch the spot, then gasp as mighty tentacles burst out the very earth it's self. Vile eyes adorn the sides, guiding them toward it's prey. The Paladin grips her Sabre, 'These are simply guards that are trying to stop us from entering the Floodplain. That cannot happen, Slaughter 85 Gatelurkers.' She grins at you and her blade shimmers in response, 'This ones mine.' |

'Good, be grateful that you have not the gift of Truesight. I thought the evil I felt back in the Cold Vale would be here. It seems I was mistaken, a terrible evil awaits us. I think it's in the next realm, but I am beginning to doubt myself now. I am grateful you are with me, come meet me in the Floodplain. We shall face whatever horror stands before us together.'
Cazinrill walks off toward the brooding evil. You watch her go, your questions about the Old Ones will obviously have to wait. |

The Paladin waves you over. |
She looks past you with an oddly haunted look in her eye, 'I don't know what to do. My Truesight is seeing nothing but the essence of evil everywhere. It's as if we are standing on a very gateway to hell. I don't know what to do!' This is the first time you see real fear in her. You say, 'Don't worry, I'll take a look around and see what's happening.' Cazinrill looks for a moment distraught at the thought of you leaving her alone, but she grips her Saber and says, 'Don't be long.'

You walk through the bleak Floodplain and see a strange figure dressed in pale robes. |
As you draw near to the odd figure, you see that he is staring out in disapproval over the plain in front of him. You follow his gaze then see a multitude of mages dressed in blood red robes scuttling over huge lines of magic scored deeply into the very earth. At the sight a sudden chill washes over you. You are shaken by the unexpected rush of fear and clench you're fists against it.
After taking a deep breath to steady your nerves, you realize that the robed figure is now staring directly at you. You blink in surprise and look back, unsure what to say for the moment. The pale cowl nods slowly at you in welcome, 'So Warrior, do you know who I am?' Silence crashes down upon you like a suffocating cage. You know you should answer but your mouth goes inexplicably dry. Before you realize what you have done, you shake your head quickly.
A dry humorless chuckle ripples out the darkness of the cowl, 'Fair enough. My name is Rune Lord Zalkor, I am responsible for this summoning glyph. We must bring the Lord of Other back from Elsewhere as Tantrathull botched his sacrifice somehow. The mighty Lord was inexplicably slain by an unknown foe.' He shrugs then continues, his voice filled with bitterness, 'It's unimaginable how that could occur, but our Lord was only partially summoned and evidently vulnerable to such attacks. We must ensure that there is no recurrence of that failure. So here we are.' He gestures to the scene before you. 'We are forced to not only scribe a new glyph, but must also incorporate a large healing element within it, so that our Lord can manifest with full heath. This is complicating the process and so our progress is slow. But to protect us against the unknown assailant, mercenaries such as your self have been hired. Although you are the first to arrive, you do have the look of competence about you, for which I am thankful.'
He then looks back at you, 'Do you have any questions Warrior?' You again find yourself blinking in stupidity at the Rune Lord in front of you. You then say quickly, 'So how did Tantrathull fail, didn't his summoning glyph work?' The Rune Lord tilts his head to one side, 'An odd, but interesting question Warrior. Tantrathull was of the priestly order, so he needed no such devices. He only required to offer a potent enough sacrifice and call to our Lord across the abyss. As a priest he is closer to His mind.'
'I on the other hand have the arcane talent. So I need to punch a hole across the abyss, then bridge the divide so that our Lord may pass over. In his wounded state he no longer has the innate strength to do so on his own. We could wait till he has healed, but we don't have that time. With a glyph we can as I have said before, not only bring him here but heal him as well.' He turns back to the multitude of mages working on the plain. 'But work continues at a slow pace. This displeases me. Take this recipe and bring me 12 Glyphmaster Crystals. I can then judge the quality of their work.'
You receive 1 x Glyphmaster Crystals Recipe. |

The Rune Lord stands cloaked in silence, 'Warrior, have you collected the Glyphmaster Crystals I asked for?' |
He look at them for a moment then unceremoniously drops them, 'With such good quality Glyph crystals our summoning will be successful. Thank you Warrior. Do you have any other questions?' You are amazed at how such a powerful mage would take his time in discussing matters with a lowly mercenary. But you should take advantage of the weird situation. You say, 'Actually I do, where do these True Gods come from and what is their relation to the Gods of Light?'
You see the pale cowl snap onto you and feel his gaze upon you. Slowly he says, 'Those are pertinent questions Warrior, I am pleasantly surprised. The Old Ones stood in eternity. They stood alone. Within their divine Court they decided to fill the emptiness. So they began to craft creation. They made all you see. Everything. As a result of their labors, the so called 'gods of light' were formed. They were an unintentional side effect and they cared for them as a parent does their children, but their work drew them away. The immature gods became annoyed that the Old Ones were not paying full attention to them as all children do. So they struck out at them in their petulance and wounded them deeply. Although they could not destroy the True Gods they could imprison them. So they dragged them down into the foundations of creation and tangled them in it's roots. Separating them from everything and leaving creation incomplete. They then took their place and formed the False Court in childlike imitation of the original, and ruled the incomplete creation as if it were their own.'
'But although they could not escape their prison, the True Gods could communicate to talented individuals who were open to learning the truth. So here we are today, striving to reunite creation with it's original Gods so they can re-take their place and finish the work they started. In our limited and flawed capacity we see their wisdom as madness, but with our renewal we shall be made whole and brought into completion of all that we should have been. Then we shall see everything in the beatific radiance which was always intended. Does that answer your question Warrior?'
You nod. The Rune Lord bows, then strides off in the direction of the huge glyph.
You should return to Cazinrill. |

Cazinrill waits for you to return, 'Did you find out what's going on?' |
You tell her that there are mages busy scribing a large summoning rune to bring The Lord of Other back from Elsewhere. Apparently a rune will not only allow him to enter our world but also heal him from the damage you inflicted upon it the last time you met. You then describe what the Rune Lord told you about the Old Ones. As you speak Cazinrill turns pale, but waits for you to finish.
When you do she says breathlessly, 'By the Gods, I said I'd answer your questions back in Cold Vale. But I got busy and forgot. I'm very sorry. What you have been told is not quite true. The doctrines of Light state clearly that the Four Gods were before all. They were complete within themselves in perfect community. But they stood in the void and saw nothing but themselves and said that they should share their goodness with others. So they created the Court of the Shapers, a mighty host of shining beings. These majestic beings were each given precise authority over a specific part of creation. They were then given a vision by the Gods of Light of what creation was to be, then sent them forth to do their part to fulfill the vision. They were also commanded to return back to the Supreme Light from whence they came after they had finished their part.'
'Through the eons the Shapers labored and made all we see today. When they had completed their individual tasks the Shapers then returned back to the Light as commanded. Creation stood in all it's glorious wonder and was almost complete, the four Generals of the Court and their Guardian were all that were left of the host of Shapers. But they whispered to themselves in secret and said, 'What happens to us when we rejoin with the Light? Is this the end of us? Do we cease to be ourselves? What will happen to our work? We have labored and toiled, should we not share in the glory of it's working?' So the four holy Shapers corrupted themselves and convinced their Guardian to help them overthrow the Supreme Light and take Creation for themselves. This was the first war. A war of the heavens.'
'The Supreme Light defeated and bound the foolish Shapers, but they could not destroy them for they were part of their own divine essence. So they cast them down into the weird and forgotten places. They bound them within the very roots of Creation that separated them from poisoning what they had made. In their mercy the Supreme Light did not remove the powers of the Shapers, but instead allowed them to work and form their surroundings.'
'They could have made a paradise and filled it with wonders to make a parallel and perfect place. But instead they gnawed on their bitterness and rage, they twisted and warped their place of existence into a nightmare filled with horrors and eternal insanities. They themselves made Elsewhere. This in time twisted even they themselves, so the Shapers ended up tormenting their own flesh into the abominations we know today. But somewhere deep within, the Shapers do know the shame of their actions, although they cannot admit it to themselves. They reached up and tried to ascend from the their own living hell. They strained so much that their very faces and arms twisted and elongated until finally they took the form of long tendrils that mark them for the evil they made themselves to be.'
'This is why I never call them the old ones, for nothing is older than the Light. The Shapers were honored beings of might and holiness. It is a lesson for us all not to let greed and ambition to dominate our actions and twist our path.'
The Paladin then salutes you and walks toward the open plain below, 'You are a strong and valiant Warrior. I will leave you to your own deliberations as to who has told the truth and who has not. I will go down into the Plain and slay this Rune Lord Zalkor you mention. This will slow the construction of the summoning rune even further. If you still want to follow the Light meet me in the Coastline. I fear that my task will still be incomplete with the death of Zalkor.' |

You find Cazinrill standing forlorn on the bleak and freezing Coastline. |
The Paladin gazes at you, relief and happiness fills her troubled face. 'I'm sorry Warrior. I thought that I had failed you and you had been swayed by the Shaper's twisted heresies. Many eminent scholars and priests have done so before you. I cannot express my joy at you joining me in this trial. I was wondering if I had the strength to carry on alone. But now you are here, the way is clear to me.'
She looks around and you follow her gaze. Rising over the barren Coastline you see a faceless creature that seems to have crawled up from the abhorrent dreamscape of a malignant, contorted mind. 'Those... things are the Spawn of the Weaver. They are from the nameless pits of Elsewhere, I can't imagine what other discordant monstrosities lurk in it's evil darkness. Judging from the look of that, I really don't want to know. From my observations of 'it', the Spawn has little capacity for thinking or consciousness. It just devours what it finds, even each other. It therefore is not the intellect orchestrating this misfortune. We simply have to get through them, kill 90 Spawn of the Weaver so we might discover the true architect of this doom that threatens to engulf us all.' |

Cazinrill guts a large Weaver Spawn with her shining Sabre. She smiles and say, 'Have you cleared the way Warrior?' |
She nods then pauses before she walks on, 'I'm sorry Warrior, but how did you manage to escape the snare of the Shapers lies when so many before you have flailed?' You reply to her gently, 'The first time I discovered the Shapers, it was through the deception of the priest Tantrathull. Then I witnessed their scheming in Crestoun. They polluted the people with their insidious presence weakening their reason and so stripping them of their capacity to see the very wrongness that enveloped them. The falsehoods continued to pile with the lies of poisoned wisdoms and even immortality itself. All that the Shapers bring is death, pain and seemingly endless twisted horror. Everything they do is selfish in nature, even their bestowing of power on those faithful to them. It is simply a deception to entangle the elect into their evil selfishness.'
You unsheathe your weapon, 'As for the Light, sometimes I don't like how things are done. But it is who they are. The important thing is that the Light never lies. You can always tell who someone is by what they do, not what they say. The Light always acts to the benefit of the world and it's people, I shall therefore serve the Light. Until the end.'
Cazinrill blinks at you in astonishment, 'Is that all...' she trails off and is about to say something else, when her eyes suddenly harden and her gleaming Sabre hums with power. She lunges to your left and cuts down a looming Weaver Spawn that is about to grab you with is vile tentacled maw.
She turns to you, 'It's lovely to chat, but we have a job to do. Meet me in the Taint, I feel an inky darkness there.' |

She nods, 'That's good. To be honest I got distracted with these Soul Drinkers. They kept looking at me... Anyway, the Soul Butcher was collecting souls to power summoning runes that was to bring the Shapers Court back to the realms of the living. With him gone the Runes will not be able to be lit. It hasn't stopped them, as they can replace the Soul Butcher, but it has slowed their coming. I do feel a deep malignant darkness that seems to be emanating from the Cursed Coast, meet me there and we shall see what's there.'
