The Desolation is well named, it is an evil place filled only with screaming Djinn. On the wind, between the demonic wild cries of the Djinn you hear the odd sound of sobbing. You follow the strange sound and find a tormented man dressed in tattered robes wandering through the Desolation. He flaps his arms ineffectually in the direction of the flaming demons. |
At the sound of your voice the man's head snaps to you. You see his tear stained face and eyes near madness with frustration and pain, 'It's all I can do! They will not listen to me.' The man slumps to the sand and mumbles incoherently to himself.
You step cautiously up to him and ask gently, 'Why in all the realms would you want to talk to Djinn?' At your question the discordant ramblings fade away and he sinks his hands deep into the sand as if to cling to some semblance of sanity. 'I don't want you talk to them. Their kind cannot be trusted. But they took my daughter, they took my Solice. I.. I must have her back. She is all I have left after my family died from the affliction that struck us 10 years ago.'
You look down upon the poor soul and say, 'Maybe I can help.'
The wretched man immediately falls silent, 'You would help me? Thank the Light, the Djinn are evil, vicious and utterly self indulgent. They ignore everything but themselves. If you would kill 30 x Raging Fire Djinn that would get the attention of their leader Villathron, you'll find him north of here. You could then beg him for my Solice's release. If you would do this, I would... I don't know... be in your debt...'

A tall fire Djinn looks across the sands, utterly ignoring you. |
The Desolation falls eerily silent at your words. Villathron's gaze slowly falls upon you. Your throat immediately contracts in terror and it takes all your strength not to fall at once to your knees.
The feeling passes and you see to your surprise Villathorn nodding, 'Good. I see that you are not the normal snivelling mortal. I also see a great doom upon you, destiny can be so cruel. That's something coming from me you know. I can't help but be impressed. I sense the lose of my kind, but they were no matter if they fell to your feeble strength. Although you might be of some small amusement to me. Now, why are you here?'
'I've come to ask for Solice's freedom.'
Villathron's eyes flash with anger, 'How dare you! She is my jewel. I shall not just give up her soul for nothing. But... if you were to bring me another jewel as replacement, say the Inskal Ruby. I would trade her soul. Do we have a deal?
You sense a terrible purpose behind his words, but you don't understand what that would be. In your mind all you can see is a distraught Father's eyes staring back at you. You whisper, 'Very well. Where will I find this Inskal Ruby?'
Villathron looks down at you with complete disdain, 'I'm sure even you have spotted the tower near the centre of the Desolation? That's Inskal Tower which holds a Runed chest that protects the Inskal Ruby. As it's a tower of Sorcerers, getting the Inskal Ruby is not going to be straightforward. Oh no. The Runed Chest is found in the Inner Sanctum of the tower on the second floor. You'll need to get the Runed Key from the Bone Wards that protect the Tower Halls found on the first floor. Getting the key is not going to be pleasant I can tell you. No, not at all. When you have the key, it will be just a simple task to get past the Inskal Guardians that protect the Inner Sanctum. As I said, Sorcerers love to make everything complicated. So, off you go. Do enjoy being torn apart from the vicious Bone Wards or beaten to death by the Inskall Guardians. The choice is yours. Open the Runed Chest with the Runed Key and bring me the Inskal Ruby within. I'll then release the girl's soul.

The Djinn stares at the shining Ruby in it's blazing hand, 'I... I don't believe it. This is the Inskal Ruby.' He then crushes the precious stone and laughs as the pieces crumble to dust through his burning fingers.
Now I am free of this imprisonment. The truth is not something I hold precious, but I do not owe a debt. So I release Solice, I do hope you're happy Mortal. I can now return to the comfort of my natural domain. Whilst I leave you to this tedium and pain I can smile knowing that even with all your vaunted power and strength, only the doom truly awaits you.'
With that he vanishes from view.
A young girl smiles at you, 'Please, tell my father I'm safe now. He's been looking for me for so, so long now. Tell him to follow me, I'll be waiting for him.' With that the spirit of Solice fades also.
