You hear the sounds of battle, you guess that someone is losing badly. |
You find a Thief dressed in black leathers in battle with an undead skeletal guard. He looks over to you, 'Oi, help me out would ya! This idiot and his mates are out to kill me.' You follow the Thief's frantic gaze to see a large patrol of white boned Guards marching purposefully toward you both...
Kill 28 x Alkaar Tomb Guard to live. |

Stage 2 Minimum Level: 1863
Location:Vendorshan Desert (Sacred Ground) (2, 8)
Required Item: None
Required Kills: 28 x Alkaar Tomb Guard
|
You shatter the last of the Tomb Guards and look around for more, but the coast is clear of them for the moment. You see the Thief sitting down nearby bandaging up a nasty wound on his forearm. |
He shrugs, 'I am for now. But the big Boss who sent me will not take kindly to me failing to get the Burning Eyes.' You take another look around, but the only movement you see is a few Tomb Guards marching mechanically over a distant sand dune. You say nervously, 'You work for a Thieves Guild?' The Thief smiles up at you, and throws a single coin at you which you catch easily.
You receive 1 x gold.
You watch him stand up slowly and test his bandaged arm, 'You're not stupid are you? Yeah, I work for a Thieves Guild. My names Samuel and this job is actually a test to see if I can advance to the next rank in the Guild. The thing is, the Thieves Guild is not really very nice to folks who they see have ripped them off, if you get my drift... Now your present situation is a good example of that. You see that coin you just took, it will look like it's payment for services rendered. Which is exactly how the Guild Referees of this test will see it. You know, the ones you can't see watching us from that distant dune over there.'
He points to the dune that you saw the Tomb Guards walking over just a moment ago, but now their remains are scattered over the sand. This can only mean that someone on the dune has just killed them quickly and utterly silently. You look down at the single coin in your hand.
Samuel steps towards you and claps you gently on the shoulder, 'Now I know I haven't hired you to help me on this job, but the Guild Referees don't know that. They also won't take kindly to you breaking our contract by not helping me and react accordingly. Which will mean you won't get outta here alive. But it's not all bad, for manipulating you horribly like this, I've just realized that I'm not a very nice person. Self discovery is such an important thing don't you agree?'
You look at the Thief smiling at you, then back at the two skulls rolling slowly down the lonely dune. Samuel then stretches his wounded arm saying, 'Also me patting you on the shoulder like that as only comrades in arms would do, really doesn't help matters. I tell you what, you help me get the Burning Eyes from the Alkaar Tomb and I'll complete the job. That will make the Guild Referees happy and you won't get totally murdered and left to rot where nobody will ever find you. How's that?'
You have a terrible sinking feeling in your stomach as you realize you have no real choice in the matter. From the looks of things you'd guess you'll have a better chance against whatever is crawling inside this Tomb Of Alkaar than the lethal Guild Assassins lurking somewhere out there in the dunes. You nod slowly in agreement.
Samuel laughs jovially, 'Excellent mate, good decision. This will be great, I won't get killed doing the job and you won't get killed for breaking the contract with me we never had! Life is good. Come on then, meet me I the Alkaar Tomb (Corridors) and we'll get this party started.'

Samuel waves you over, 'You ready to do this?' |
The Thief points with his good arm at the sandy floor, 'Watch the sand, it's enchanted. I need you to kill 47 x Death Sand to clear a path so we can make it to the Antechamber. Go now, we don't have much time.'

The Thief stares nervously at the sand around him, 'Have you dealt with the Death Sands?' |
Samuel nods curtly, 'You don't have to tell me twice. I'll see you in the Antechamber. You then watch the Thief silently run deeper into the Tomb. You are stunned as you realize that even though he's moving over sand, Samuel somehow leaves no track of his passing.

Samuel glares at you, 'You took your time didn't you! The longer we're in here the more likely we'll get dead.' |
Samuel blinks at you for a moment then says, 'Oh, sorry. I see what you mean. We can't all be trained by Master Assassins I suppose. But you're here now so it's all good. Anyhow, in my research on this place, it said that there are some charming little wretches that haunt the Antechamber called Spiteful Minions. Everyone just ignores them as they are really annoying and miserable. I did find an odd reference to a Weird Tablet that some of them carry. Go get me that Weird Tablet, I bet it's important.'

You return to find the Thief pacing to and fro, 'Did you get the Weird Tablet?' |
Samuel bites his lower lip as he translates the incomprehensible scrawl, 'I see what the books meant when this makes no sense. Everyone assumes that this was some sort of miserable diary. But they are wrong, it's actually a Recipe for making a Alkaar Saber. Here you take it, it will probably come in handy later. After you have learnt the Alkaar Saber Recipe, meet me in the Sepulchre.
You receive 1 x Alkaar Saber Recipe.

Samuel gives you a toothy grin, 'This is the last leg of the journey, are you ready to get the Burning Eyes?' |
The Thief looks around to make sure no one is sneaking up on you, 'This Tomb was built for the last Alkaar King. He was a vicious and by all accounts fair ruler. It just wasn't a good idea to get into his bad books so peeps generally did as he wanted, so his was a peaceful rule. As a strangely well loved tyrant, the people built this impressive Tomb when he died. It has never been plundered because of the lethal traps that have been set in place.'
'Now, my task is to get the Burning Eyes from the Alkaar Sphinx (Champion) that is found here in the Sepulchre. You will need to destroy the Sphinx to take the eyes of course. Now according to that Weird Tablet you aquired from the miserable minions, you'll have to use the Alkaar Saber from that recipe I gave you. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Return to me when you have the Burning Eyes of the Alkaar Sphinx (Champion).' |

The Thief waits for you impatiently, 'Did you manage to get the Burning Eyes from the Alkaar Sphinx (Champion)? |
Samuel blinks in astonishment at the blazing rubies sitting in his palm, 'I don't believe it. We did it! This is great, I was given this job as a death sentence for a silly misunderstanding over me being caught in the bed chambers of the Mayors daughter. But I have the Burning Eyes of the Alkaar Sphinx! With these I can return triumphant and rise up in the Guild! Thank you so much, I owe this all to you.'
'I shall be forever your friend, after all that much more valuable than any practical or monetary reward. If you are ever in any trouble don't hesitate to ask, but please don’t think I'm actually stupid enough to tell give you even the slightest hint of where I'm going. Now don't feel like I've taken obscene advantage of your good nature. I get to return home to fame and fortune, whilst you don't get you throat cut by Thieves Guild Assassins. See, it's a win-win for both of us. Now, farewell... best buddy.'
You receive Samuel's friendship + Not being assassinated + 35,496,921 Xp
