You are surprised to find a Priest of Light sanding inside a softly glowing aura holding an Icon of Lindarsil, softly muttering to himself. |
The Priest's eyes flicker open and his murmuring stops immediately, 'I'm sorry, but you can see me?' The question shocks you into silence and you stare stupidly back at him. After an awkward silence the Priest kisses the Icon and carefully places it into his travel bag. 'I'm sorry, I was just a little taken aback. The Aura of Phasing should have hidden me from all prying eyes. If I may be so bold, are you a follower of the Light?' You nod slowly then ask him, 'Are you alright Father? It's a bit weird to find you all alone out here.'
The Priest coughs then looks about carefully, 'Where are my manners, I'm Father Maylor and I've been sent out here to find a Paladin we've lost. You'd be surprised how often that happens. Anyway Cavanda was sent out a month ago to slay a growing evil here in the Sathrin Forest. Unfortunately she has not been heard of since she entered the wood. I was simply walking through the Forest looking for her, when I was accosted by a rather rude Wood Elf. She threatened to shoot me on the spot for violating their domain. Of all the nerve, I'm here on a Church Dictate you know! I tried my best to reason with her but she just ignored everything I said. I was finally forced to flee and only the gift of Lindarsil saved me from a rather painful end I suspect. Wood Elves are quite good shots by all accounts.'
'Now as you can see through my Aura, I'll assume you've been sent here by Lindarsil. Will you aid me in my holy task?' You sigh and nod saying, 'What do you need?'
The Priest looks up to the sky and mutters a silent prayer of thanks, 'Thank you. I need to search the Sathrin Village for Cavanda. We'll have to get past these over zealous Wood Elves first however. It's an unfortunate business, but I need you to kill 38 x Satherin Archers. That will allow us to slip into Satherin Village unnoticed.

You find Father Maylor standing inside his Aura of Phasing again. |
The Priest clutches his icon of Lindaron as if his life depended on it, 'These Elves are out to kill me! I just arrived and three Elven Glyphweavers started to invoke their horrid little symbols. I managed to rise my protection of Lindarsil before they could finish their casting. I don't have any knowledge of what the magics these Elves are using. They must be utilizing some sort of device to channel their conjurings. I need you to bring me one of the Glyphweaver Runes so that I can attune my Aura to their sorceries. Without that I'll be torn apart by these spiteful Wood Elves.'

Father Maylor waits nervously for your return, 'Did you get the Glyphweaver Rune?' |
The Priest takes the Rune from you and immediately places it on the Icon of Lindarsil. After a while the Elven Rune starts to glow with a yellow light, then fades into nothing. Father Maylor says softly, 'Thank you again my friend, now my Aura will nullify the strange Elven magics. I take it that you found no sign of Cavanda in your travels through the East Quarter?' You shake you head and Father Maylor sighs deeply, 'I suppose that would be just too easy now wouldn't it. Well, we should look in the West Quarter, meet me there.'

Father Maylor holds the Icon of Lindarsil with both hands as he walks through the West Quarter. The Aura of Phasing shimmers in the air all around the Priest, protecting him from harm. |
The Priest looks around at the grandeur of the Elven Village, 'I never imagined that the Elves village would be so impressive. The artistry of the buildings is quite breath taking. It shows a subtly to their nature that would belie their actions toward us. It's a shame, I would like to get to know these Elves but we just don't have the time. We must discover the fate of Cavanda.'
'I want you to search the West Quarter for any sign of Cavanda. If the Elves get in your way, cut them down. It's regrettable, but if you kill 47 x Sathrin Blademaster that would send a message not to get in our way.'

Father Maylor waits your your return, 'Did you manage to send a message to the Sathrin Elves so you could search the West Quarter for Cavanda in peace?' |
You see regret etched on the Priests face, 'I wish it would not be so. After all that, was there any sign of our wayward Paladin?' You shake you head. Father Maylor turns away from you, 'I'm sorry, I just can't carry on like this. There is no good that can come from such bloodshed. We must try another way. I've seen an Elf dressed in some sort or robe enter the Inner Quarter. Let's hope that we can find someone there who will speak to us. Meet me in the Inner Quarter, I just prey that we can avoid any more needless unpleasantness.'

You are surprised to find an extensive wooded park in the northern edge of Sathrin Village. Father Maylor stands in a pleasant glade talking to a robed Elven Monk. |
As you greet Father Maylor the Elven Monk falls silent. The Priest smiles at you, 'I finally found someone who would talk to me. Apparently this area was the first area of the Forest that the Sathrin Elves settled, they have made this part of their village a park to remind them of where they came from. That's beside the point, Silandra here has informed me that Cavanda bypassed the Village when they refused her entry. It's such a relief to discover she's alive.'
Then the Priest moves closer to you and he lowers his voice to a whisper, 'Silandra also told me that there have been deaths and ill omens within the sacred Inner Quarter. They think it is our doing somehow. Mind you we haven't really proved our trustworthiness by slaughtering every Elf we see. So can really blame them for jumping to that conclusion?'
'I did see a foul Nether Demon flitting through the trees as I entered the Inner Quarter, I asked Silandra about this and she knows nothing about it. In fact she though I was making it up. We must assume that it is concealing it's presence from the Elves. Luckily we are Humans and the spell the Demon is using obviously does not work on us. Hunt down and kill 5 x Nether Demon (Champion) and bring me it's head as a trophy. That will prove that there is other darker forces at work here.'

You return to find father Maylor in deep conversation with Silandra a Sathrin Monk. Father Maylor asks you quickly, 'Did you deal with the evil flitting through the trees and bring me a Nether Demon Trophy like I asked?'
|
Father Maylor takes the accursed object from you the turns to Silandra and he gently says, 'I know that this is distressing, but this is proof of a demonic influence here within the Inner Quarter. We are not responsible for the summoning of this evil creature, this means that there is another malign presence somewhere else in your beautiful wood. As I've said before, we are only here to find the Paladin we sent into Sathrin Forest to slay the evil we suspected was growing here.'
The Elven Monk stares down in horror at the grisly trophy in her hands, 'I don't understand what is happening here, but I cannot deny what is plain for me to see. You speak of not summoning this creature, I believe your words. I also hear the ring of truth when you say that being here, you are simply following a revelation from your Gods. I just cannot ignore the death you dealt upon my people. I see that you lead and this Warrior follows. This means that it is your will that this sword has fallen upon us. I ask that you leave this place and return home. I also see our fault in this tragedy as well. We did not listen to you when you spoke, we have become to insular in our haven. We too must reflect on our part in this bloodshed.'
Father Maylor blinks in shock and stammers, 'I... I... I can't just give up and return home. What about Cavanda and the evil growing in Sathrin Forest!' The Monk simply nods and slowly turns to you, 'Warrior, if I lead, would you follow?' You feel the Priest's eyes upon you as you say, 'If you agree to search for Cavanda and destroy the evil growing in Sathrin Forest, I will follow you. I will give you fair warning, there might be some hard choices to be made along this journey. Think carefully before you agree to this.'
Out the corner of your eye you see Father Maylor's gaze shift from you to the Elven Monk. Silandra smiles and nods, 'We will look for your Paladin and search out and extinguish the evil within our domain. I just worry that I shall not be able to cope with the dangers that lurk outside the walls of our village.' Father Maylor laughs and says, 'I'm not versed with physical conflict myself, but this Warrior is more that a match for anything you'll face I'd wager. If you agree to the guide the Warrior through the wood I shall do as you ask and return home. It would be good for me to tell the Arch Bishop that you are helping us in his endeavor.' Silandra bows, 'It is agreed then. Warrior, we should leave the village at once, meet me in the Soldoril Grove (Twisted Wood). The Grove is an old place of power, we should make sure it is free of corruption first before we move onto other areas of the Forest.'
