You find Virmalthorn, High Priest of GorGulGol... sulking... |
The High Priest of GorGulGol glares at you with his pinpricks of flame within the darkness of his cowl, 'Yes. Things are very wrong. This Undead will not obey me. All Undead obey me, I'm the High Priest of the Death God. It's a perk of the job you know. Unfortunately this Undead apparently does not understand this simple fact. Do you know what this means Warrior?' You shrug, and say, 'No, not really.' Virmalthorn leans in close to you, the air chills at his presence. He whispers grimly, 'I'm not happy.' He points at the gormless Undead looking at you vacantly, 'You talk to him. A swift crushing of the head might be in order. I'm sure that will put things in perspective for him!'
Talk to the Undead Citadel Guard.

An Undead Citadel Guard stares at you, 'Nope. Not speaking to nobody who is not in the Guard. I've been told you see...' He taps his temple with his finger slowly. |
The Undead Guard looks at you, then at the Golden Ring in his grubby palm... Then slowly at you...
You point at the ring and say slowly, 'I'm a friend of the City Guard. I have the City Signet. Only friends of the City Guard get those...'
The Undead Guard looks at you for a long time... Then down at his palm and glares at the golden ring in his palm... He mumbles, 'I suppose, you don't look like a City Guard. But you gave me the Signet, so we must be friends.' He smiles at you suddenly, 'I not seen a friend in the longest time. What can I do for you friend?'
You smile relieved back at him, 'What are you doing here?' The Guard giggles at you, a hollow watery sound. 'I'm a Guard, so I'm guarding. That's what Guards do you know. They guard things.' He then pats you on the head, 'I know it's complicated. It took me the longest time to get my head around it.'
You nod then say slowly, 'So, what is it you're guarding?' The Undead quickly looks around to make sure nobody us around. You hope desperately that he does not notice Virmalthorn staring directly at you both from the other room. The Guard points down the corridor, 'I guards that prisoner in our Cell. But nobody is to know as it's a secret.' He then gazes over your shoulder and sees Virmalthorn, 'That one is a bit weird. He came over and waved his fingers in front of me than started telling me off. I don't like him. You'd better go check on the Prisoner to make sure she's still there. I'll open the Cell, you go check to see if she's alright.' |

Your new friend the Undead Citadel Guard opens the Cell door for you, then returns to his post. You go down a small flight of steps and enter a small room. You are surprised to find Virmalthorn stood in the center of the room with an air of immense smugness. |
The Death Priest folds his bone arms in front of him, 'I might not be able to compel that Undead, but he is still blind to my Phantom Stride.' He points to the large Cell Door in front of him. 'I must admit that doors are a very effective method of keeping the corporal out. We need to get in. I doubt that the idiot upstairs will have the key. Go get some Acidic Goo from the Corrosive Slime and burn the lock away.' |

You enter the Cell and find an exquisite emerald statuesque woman staring back at you. She looks vaguely familiar |
You enter slowly into the Cell. You've seen this person before, but you can't quite place her. The statuesque woman smiles back at you. 'I am glad to see you again Warrior. Although the last time we met were in more attractive surroundings. I am the Crystal Queen. We met atop my husbands tall tower. You slew him with my blessing as he had become a cruel tyrant just like the King he once served.'
Her flawless emerald features darken for a moment, 'At least I remember him slain, I remember... I remember becoming Queen to the City of Xinderoth and freeing the people. I remember peace coming to the city for the first time and the citizens being happy. Trade started to flourish and Xinderoth began to blossom. I also remember the people wanting to change the name, but I refused. My husband was a powerful mage, he built this city and it deserves to remember him. Those are some of the clear few memories I have. I think they are fading as time goes on. The fact that my husband, the one you slew is alive again and sitting atop this stunted Citadel vexes me. The City has shrunk too, I don't know what's going on. Or has it always been this size and my memories are at fault? Warrior, I cannot reconcile my memories with this twisted reality around me. Am I going mad?'
You see the Queen's pain as she struggles to keep her mind. You take her hand and she looks at you as a small child. 'This is not your fault. A powerful being has warped the world as a test for me. I must pass this test or this fake reality will become real.'
The Crystal Queen blinks at you in shock, 'So this is fake, the City was really bigger?' You shrug, 'Yes, it was one of the the biggest cities I've ever seen on the face of all the Realms. If I do not pass this test, then Xinderoth will be replaced with this travesty.'
The Queen lets her hands fall, 'So what is this test you must do?' You take a deep breath, 'I must slay your husband.' You dread her reaction. She glares are you with fierce determination in her eyes. 'I may not be sure of many things. But my Xinderoth who took on an entire kingdom to avenge my death, invented a school of magic to return me to life and built this majestic City for me to rule would not have imprisoned me in this dingy Cell. He became a monster, but he always loved me. The thing on top of this Citadel is NOT MY HUSBAND!'
She stands to her full height, straight and proud, 'I am the Crystal Queen. I am formed with Xind Magic. This entire Citadel might be a poor representation of what my husband built, but it is still crafted with Xind Magic.' She holds her hand out straight and a light bursts from her palm. 'This is all I can summon with my power. A presence foils my will. You will complete the Citadel Scepter and open the Palace at the top of the twisted tower and cut the thing that pretends to be Xinderoth down. Go now, the Undead Guard comes to check on me every hour.'
You receive 1 x Citadel Shard 1.
Return to Virmalthorn. |
